Physiotherapy Curriculum


Undergraduate course’s Objectives

            At the end of B.Med.Tech course, the learners should be able to:

1.      Have acquired requisite knowledge of medical conditions that can be treated by physiotherapy means.

2.      Be able to use physical modilities safely and effectively.

3.      Demonstrate skill in performing therapeutic exercises.

4.      Attain the capacity of updating oneself by promoting self learning and continuing education in order to keep abreast with on-going and changing trends of physiotherapertic means internationally.

5.      Appreciate the importance of team work and be able to collaborate and co-ordinate with other health professionals.

6.      Be a competent, skillful and dedicated physiotherapists.

7.      To appreciate National health plan and healthy policy.

8.      To be able to participate in primary health care as community physiotherapy.

After passing the 1st year, enroll each major according to

There are three compartments in each subject.

Weightage of classwork                      30%

Weightage of theory                           40%

Weightage of practical & viva            30%

Total                                                    100%

Pass marks                               50% in each compartment

Moderation marks                   46% for only one compartment

Credit marks                           65% and above in all subjects (not be announced)

Distinction                              75%

Failed                                      one compartment is scored less than 46%

                                                (or) 2 Compartments are within limit of moderation marks

Grand viva call for distinction candidate

Each compartment must be 75%

Grand call will be announced after practical exam

Same question that is chosen by board members will be answered for 20 minutes in same day

Eligibility for distinction will be decided by board members

  AIMS

 

1.To nurturehighly qualified and competent physiotherapists who would be able to take part in teaching, research and service relating to physiotherapy and rehabilitation health care as directed by National Health Plan.

2.To establish the international educational standards of the Physiotherapy.

 

OBJECTIVES

 

1.      To equip with acquired knowledge relating to advanced physiotherapy treatment for conditions where physiotherapy is mandatory.

2.      To be able to demonstrate technical skills and contribute more effectively and efficiently in the clinical practice and community based rehabilitation (CBR)

3.      To develop human resources that would be able to lead further development of physiotherapy education and research.

4.      To become highly qualified and committed physiotherapists who would appreciate the importance of team spirit and develop strong ties among team members and other health professionals

SELECTION OF CANDIDATES

Criteria for application

B.P.Sc / B.Med.Tech graduates (physiotherapy) from one of the universities of medical technology in Myanmar with 2 years government service

Selection Examination

            -Written examination for

                                    (a) Subject matter (60 MCQ – 5stems)

                                    (b) English

         -Personal interview.

Number of candidates intake

Maximum numbers of candidates per academic year for each university are 5.

DURATION OF THE COURSE

        Two academic years.

 

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

 

1.      Teaching learning strategies will be emphasized on problem-based and student centered learning.

2.      Candidates have to complete 9 modules within 2 academic years

3.      Candidates will be posted for bloc posting to the assigned teaching hospitals to promote skill and competency

The final examination will be held at the end of the two academic years.

             Requirements for the final examination are;

1.      Satisfactory completion of dissertation

2.      90% attendance

            Examination will be consist of 3 compartments and dissertation

 

  1. Two written theory paper of three hours each

a)      Physiotherapy paper I

b)      Physiotherapy paper II

  1. Practical Examination
  2. Viva voce

 

(1) Theory Paper

Physiotherapy Paper I consists of

l  Applied Anatomy & Physiology in Physiotherapy

l  Advanced Biomechanics & Kinesiology

l  Biophysics in physiotherapy

l  Musculoskeletal disorders

l  Pain management and electrotherapy

 

Physiotherapy Paper II consists of specialized physiotherapy technique in the management of

l  Trauma and orthopaedic conditions

l  Neurological disorders

l  Cardiopulmonary disorders

l  Obstetric and gynecological conditions

l  Paediatric and geriatric patients

l  Community Based Rehabilitation

 

Method          

            Theory papers  - Written

            Question type  - 1 Long question (essay type)

                                                            (20 marks) 

                                     -5 MSQs (16 marks each)

            Weightage       - Paper I      100 marks (50%)

                                    -Paper II          100 marks (50%)

                                    Total- 100%

                                    Pass marks- 60%

                        (but one of theory papers must be at least  40 marks)

 

 

(2) Practical Examination

1.      One long case                    -100 marks

2.      Two short cases                 - 100 marks

Weightage       - Long case      -70%

                                    - Short cases    -30%

 

(3) Viva voce -            Three tables

Table (2)          - therapeutic exercises    100 marks

Table (3)          - therapeutic modalities   100 marks

Average -100%

 

1.      Each final written theory paper, practical and oral examination of physiotherapy will be considered as three compartments.

2.      If a candidate fails in a compartment, he/she fails and he will be returned to mother unit. Then candidate must appear for the supplementary examination which will be held 6 months after final examination

3.      The candidate must sit for two consecutive supplementary examinations which will be held six monthly within a year after the final examination.

4.      Failure in the second supplementary examination will result in the termination of candidate.

PASS MARK       - 60% in all compartments and

CREDIT               - 75% in all compartments

DISTINCTION    - 80% in all compartments.

IN EACH COMPARTMENT RESPECTIVELY

 

Dissertation

1.      The title and protocol of the dissertation must be submitted within three months of the start of the course.

2.      The protocol should be resubmitted within one month if the protocol is rejected by the academic board.

3.      Supervisors will be appointed by the academic board of studies.

4.      The candidate will not be allowed to sit for the final examination and will be considered as one F if he/she has not submitted the dissertation at the stated time.

5.      If the dissertation is not satisfactory, it must be resubmitted from the mother unit six months after final examination.

6.      If the dissertation is not satisfactory and cannot be submitted within 3 years he/she will be terminated from the M. Med. Tech postgraduate course.

 

Supplementary Examination

Therewill be two supplementary examinations. The candidate who fails the final examination will be sent to mother unit and must prepare for the supplementary examination which will be held six months after final examination. Second supplementary examination would be held after another six months.  The one who fails his/her third attempt will not be considered to continue the course.
